Judgment Day

Questions:

1. Who is the Judge on the Judgment Day?

2. Who will be judged first?

3. What is used as the standard in judgment on the Judgment Day?

4. By what will we be judged?

5. In addition to our deeds, what else will God judge on the Judgment Day?

6. Who will be exempt from the judgment?

7. How much warning do we get for the Judgment Day?

8. What color is the throne of God on the Judgment Day?

9. What comes after death?

10. What will everyone do on or before the Judgment Day?

Answers:

1. The Judge on the Judgment Day is God. (Rom 2:16) “This will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.”

2. For whatever reason Peter wrote that judgment will begin with the family of God, the church. (1 Peter 4:17) “For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?”

3. Jesus said we will be judged by the “very word” which he spoke. (John 12:48). “There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day.”

4. We are all to be judged according to what we have done as recorded in God’s book. (Rev 20:12) “I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.”

5. Romans 2:16 tells us that God will “judge men’s secrets.” Nothing is hidden from God.

6. Since the “small and great” will be there, then no one is exempt.

7. We will get no warning. The coming of Christ and the Judgment Day will come “as a thief in the night.” (Luke 17:26-30) Could he come today? He could. We do not know when he will come.

8. Revelation 20:11 speaks of the throne as being “white.” Certainly this is a reference to the purity of God.

9. For those who are not alive when He comes again, death is followed by the judgment. “It is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27)

10. Since there will come a time when everyone will bow the knee to Christ, then certain it will happen for some here on earth, but at least to all by all on the Judgment Day. “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” (Philippians 2:10)

Answers:

1. Cain and Abel were the first to offer a sacrifice (in worship) to God. (Gen 4). God honored Abel’s sacrifice, but rejected Cain’s.

2. The Greek word we translate as worship is the word “Proskyneo.” It literally means kiss forward, i.e. to throw the kiss. Our word worship comes from the Old English word “weordhscipe” which means worthiness. Worship is the act of showing that we believe God to be worthy.
